Best Air Conditioner and Fan Combo Reviews

With its sleek and modern design, this air condition and fan combo will fit into the aesthetic of any home. It boasts an affordable price, light weight design, and rave reviews.

With its affordable price tag, ability to quickly cool a room, and multiple functions, the SereneLife Portable SLPAC12.5 was selected as the Best Overall Air Conditioner and Fan Combo. With three modes to help cool, clean, and make your home more comfortable, this unit is also lightweight and easy to move around.

The Cooling Mode activates the air conditioner which will quickly cool down your room. Using 12000 BTUs of cooling power, the cold aid emitted from this unit can cool a room up to 450 square feet, making it perfect for the bedroom, office, and studio apartments. You have full control over the temperature settings and the fan speed, giving you the ability to fine-tune the SLPAC12.5 to your needs.

The dehumidifier helps to reduce moisture which makes your home less susceptible to dust mites, mold and mildew. It pulls 1.8Liters per hour and will alert you when it is time to empty the reservoir tank. It also has an evaporative dry function, eliminating the need to empty the tank.

The fan setting circulates the air in your room and is very quiet, perfect for evening use. Using an automatic swing mode helps to increase air circulation.

Constructed using durable and lightweight materials and sitting on 4-wheels,  it is easy to roll this unit around your home and with the remote control, you can change the settings without needing to get up!

Pros:

  • Affordable Price
  • AC/Dehumidifier/Fan all in one unit.
  • Has an evaporative dry function, eliminating the ned to empty the reservoir tank.
  • Blow air from the side and from the top, increasing air circulation.
  • Lightweight and sleek design, easy to roll around.
  • Room Coverage: 450+ sq. ft.

Cons:

  • No quieter than a window AC, not great for night time use if you are a light sleeper.
  • Window Plate can be difficult to install, depending on window size.

Testing Results:

When using the SereneLife SLPAC12.5 in a 400 square foot room, we found that it cools the room quickly and efficiently. The fan is strong and with its side vents, pushed the air around the room and reduced “cold spots”. It is rather loud, but for daytime use we had no problems getting used to the background noise. The remote control made it easy to adjust the settings and after running the humidifier all day, we did not have to drain the humidifier tank once. In other units we tested, we were emptying the tanks every few hours.

This quiet air conditioner and fan combo looks great and cools quick. The wheels make it easier to move around the home and the dehumidifier helps to reduce any condensation on the windows.

The Whynter ARC-14S features a strong Air Conditioner, 3-mode fan, dehumidifier and pulls in air through an activated carbon filter. An award-winning machine that received Consumer Report’s 2019 highest score, it is powerful enough to cool rooms up to 500 sq. ft and allows you full control over the temperature settings.

With the dual hose system, it can reduce the temperature faster than comparable single hose systems. In addition, with its advanced auto drain technology, the ARC-14S recycles the moisture from the air and uses it to produce cool air.

When used as a dehumidifier, the ARC-14S can draw 71 pints of moisture out of the air per day. While the water collection bucket holds 2 pints of water, most of the moisture in the air will be used to cool the condenser coils. The LED display will indicate when the water collection bucket is full. You can use the extendable exhaust hose (up to 60″) or attach a standard garden hose for automatic and hassle-free drainage.

As an Eco-Friendly and CFC-free Air Conditioner, the Whynter ARC-14S is also lead-free and has high energy efficiency, keeping running costs low. Drawing a maximum of 1300 watts, the ARC-14S has an efficiency rating (EER) of 11.2, with the average EER rating of a portable AC unit being 8.5 (higher is better).  This makes it the most energy-efficient portable AC unit on the market.

While most people are concerned about sound levels when running an AC unit, the Whynter ARC-14S runs at 56 dB and is a quiet hum compared to most portable ACs. You have complete thermostatic control in the range of 61°F to 89°F and can take advantage of the 24-hour programmable timer to set the temperature for different times of the day. In addition, the blue LED panel automatically shuts off after a few seconds, making this a great model to use in the bedroom.

The activated carbon filter works to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air and helps neutralize any odors. VOCs are found outside the home in the form of smog and air pollution and interior paint, cleaners, and air fresheners from inside the house. So not only will using the Whynter ARC-14S cool your home and reduce humidity, but it will also help with improving the air quality.

Pros:

  • A cooling capacity of 14,000 BTU, the strongest AC on our list
  • Dehumidifier can pull 71 pints per day.
  • Dual Hose Operation
  • Activated Carbon Filter to clean the air
  • Uses Eco-Friendly materials and CFC free refrigerant
  • Room Coverage: 500 sq. ft.

Cons:

  • More expensive than other options.
  • Need to empty humidifier reservoir, or attach a drain hose
  • The Window Mount Intake/Outtake are too close together

Testing Results:

The sleek and modern look of the Whynter ARC-14s will fit in with most homes, looking more like an interior design element than a powerful air conditioner. With it’s strong cooling capabilities, our 400 foot room was quickly chilled, and the fan mode helped to circulate the air. We noticed that the openings for the intake/outtake hoses in the window mount were too close together, causing the AC to work harder as it was sucking back in the hot air. Even with this extra work, the AC did it’s job well. The humidifier pulled a lot of moisture from the air, more so than other other unit on this list, but with a 2-pint reservoir it would be best to use a drain hose.

We loved the all black look of this portable air conditioner and fan combo. Sitting in the corner quietly working, the difference in temperature was noticeable within minutes.

The Honeywell MM14CCSBB is another great air conditioner and fan combo. Like the others on our list, this is a 3-in-1 unit that features an air conditioner, fan, and dehumidifier. The machine offers exceptional power with the ability to cool rooms up to 700 sq. ft. In addition, the unit includes dual filters to capture dust, hair, and other particles.

Using a dual motor, this helps to keep noise levels down. The Air Conditioner mode has a Self-Evaporative system, eliminating the need to empty out a water reservoir.

When running the dehumidifier, it can pull up to 90 pints of moisture from the room, per day. For rooms with higher humidity, you can set up a continuous drain system.

Easy-to-clean dual dust filters keep the air in your room free of particles and contaminants. To clean, simply take them out and run them under the sink and let them dry, before putting them back in.

Using the full-function remote, you can operate the Honeywell Portable AC and change the programs from anywhere in the room. There is also a bright and easy-to-read screen, with light up buttons, on the front side of the unit.

The fan has 3 modes and blows air vertically, which helps with air circulation. A great way to circulate the cool air at night, the fan modes are quiet and strong.

The thermal overload protection that exists on the compressor and motor contribute extra safety precautions.

With smooth-glide castor wheels, this unit is easy to roll around your home. The accessories provided make for quick installation in both vertical and horizontal windows.

Pros:

  • Air conditioner cools rooms from 550 – 700 sq. ft.
  • Three fan speeds, perfect for night time use.
  • Dehumidifier has an auto-evaporation system, no buckets to empty!
  • Dual air filters to keep your room feeling fresh.
  • Has a remote control and easy-to-read menu screen

Cons:

  • Louder than other ACs on the list.
  • Some customers experience quality-control issues relating to the body.
  • No dehumidifier water reservoir.

Testing Results:

The Honeywell MM14CCSBB is a powerful machine that cooled our 400 sq. ft. room faster than any of the other ACs on the list. It was louder than the others, but if speed is important to you, it’s probably something you can overlook. The digital LCD display was easy to reach, and the remote was very intuitive. The biggest drawback was the lack of dehumidifier reservoir, but the air was not so humid that we would have needed it anyways. The self-evaporative mode lowered the humidity without us ever needing to connect a drain hose.

Benefits of a portable AC/Fan Combo

Circulate the Air

It’s one thing to have an air conditioner, but it is another to have an air conditioner and fan combo. Combining an air conditioner with a fan is the best way to cool off your home. The fan will disperse the cool air throughout your home and create air circulation. This airflow circulation eliminates “warm pockets” and results in a refreshing gentle breeze that flows throughout your home.

Portable

Another benefit of an AC and fan combo is its ability to be moved from one place to another. These fans do not take up too much space and are fairly lightweight. That means that you can move the fan from room to room to accommodate your home’s temperate desires.

Energy Savings

If you have an air conditioning system in your home, using an AC fan will actually save you money. An AC fan will keep the air in a particular room of your house cool. This means that your air conditioner does not have to work as hard to cool your home. This will not only result in energy cost savings on your utility bill but will also preserve the useful life of your home ac system.

Easy Install

These units can be installed with ease. All that needs to be done in order to relocate one of these units is to unplug from the wall and ensure that the exhaust hose is not draining.

What to look for in an air conditioner and fan combo

Temperate Control

It’s important to make sure that the unit you invest in allows you to control the temperature. Although these units are designed to cool off a room, sometimes you do not need the room to be ice cold. This is where temperature control comes into play. A portable AC fan with temp control allows you to adjust the room to your desired temperature.

Fan Speeds

Fan speed goes hand in hand with temperature control. It’s important to make sure that the unit allows you to adjust the fan speed. Adjusting the fan speed will give you more control over the airflow circulation in your home, which results in more control over the temperature and speed in which your home cools. This goes without saying, but a faster fan speed will allow you to cool your home at a faster rate. On the other hand, lower fan speed will let you cool your home at a more reasonable rate.

Room Coverage

Room coverage is another important aspect to consider. Before deciding on the unit, you should know the size room that you want to cool. To measure room size simply multiply the length of the room times the width. This will give you an approximate size that you will need to cool. Generally, the smaller the room coverage the more affordable the air conditioning unit.
