The SilverOnyx uses a familiar bottom-to-top air flow design, where the intake grill is located on the back under the power cord outlet. The air is sucked in through there and then pushed through the filters and out the top. This 360° airflow is the most efficient way to circulate indoor air. 

Control Panel

The control panel has a digital display screen as well as 9 function buttons. There is a timer function which can be scheduled from 30 minutes to 24 hours hours. The sleep setting will instantly dim the light on the control panel and reduce the fan to low, which is whisper quiet. Theres also on/off buttons for the Ion Generator and UV light, and a light toggle button to dim the display panel. There is also an “Auto” setting and fan speed adjustment button (with 5 speeds to toggle through). When using the Auto setting, the PM2.5 Smart Sensor within the SilverOnyx will detect any change in indoor air quality and adjust the fan speed accordingly. This is also the most energy efficient way to use this air purifier. 

5-Stage Filtration

The 5-stage purification process within the SilverOnyx includes a barrel type pre-filter, HEPA H13 filter, Activated Carbon Filter, and also utilizes technologies such as ionization and UV-C sterilization. Unlike many traditional air purifiers, the SilverOnyx filters out dirty particles before sterilizing contaminants and eliminating odor.

As smoke and other particles are pulled into the purifier, they are first drawn through the mesh pre-filter that catches  dust, pet hair and dander, and other large particles. 

The air then flows through a true H13 HEPA filter that removes 99.97% of particles and odors under .3 microns in size (including smoke). 

After syphoning through the HEPA filter, the air enters the activated carbon filter, which absorbs odors from smoke, cooking, and pets. 

Next, smaller air contaminants are filtered with the help of the Negative Ion Generator. This helps to remove harmful airborne particulates by charging them with negative energy. This causes them to clump together and get caught by the filter. This feature can be turned on and off, depending on your needs. 

The final stage in the purification process is the UV Light Sanitizer. This process zaps and kills any germs, bacteria, or living organisms with intense UV light. UV-C light is harmless to humans and animals and works great for eliminating mold spores.

The SilverOnyx has a sleek, 360° design that is more compact than flat filter purifiers, but still allows for 60% more surface area. This increased amount of surface area results in the filtration process being exposed to more cubic meters of air per minute than its competition, thus expanding its filtration capabilities.

This is a great air purifier for overnight use, ringing in at only 25 dB at the lowest setting. When running at the highest fan speed the sound levels are 56 dB, which still puts it ahead of most air purifiers.

Negative Customer Feedback

Although this product has a 360° design that allows for 60% more surface area, many say that the purifier does not reach its full potential. The consensus is that the air intake does not seem to be as strong as it could be. With the air intake located on the back beneath the power cord, it is not a large window for pulling in air.

Another drawback of the SilverOnyx air purifier seems to be the noise level of some (possibly faulty) units. Although these customers have been able to get an immediate refund from the SilverOnyx customer support team, there have been a small number of customers who have received units that were very loud. The take-away here is that quality control might be a little lacking.
