Unfortunately, sleeping is more of a challenge than it should be for many of us. But for us personally, white noise helps a lot. The great thing about white noise is that it can sort of drown out other non-white noise that may be keeping you awake in the first place while providing a soothing sound for you to doze off too. But before you buy a white noise machine for hundreds of dollars at Brookstone or some other specialty store, consider a tower fan. Tower fans are inexpensive, provide consistent, non-intrusive white noise and are more useful than a white noise machine. Here are some of the most affordable and best tower fans for white noise.

Best Tower Fan for Nurseries Reviews
We start with the Honeywell QuietSet Whole Room Tower Fan which actually has a white noise setting! The white noise fan setting is the fourth of 8 fan speeds and we found it to be the perfect level for sleeping. It isn’t so powerful that it made us cold in the night but it produced just enough sound to drown out some of our more annoying neighbors and help us sleep. You can set it to shut off automatically too (8-hour timer setting). You can dim the display lights and operate this fan from your bed with a remote.
- Sleep, calm and whisper modes
- Very sleek design
- Only 32 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter
We included this earlier Honeywell model because it is slightly more affordable and still offers the same great sleeping features as its newer counterpart. The only major difference between the Honeywell Quietset Whole Room Tower Fan (Earlier Model) and the aforementioned Honeywell tower fan is that this one has 5 fan speeds instead of 8. But it still has the all-important white noise fan setting that works just as well as the newer edition. It is has a slightly bulkier width (by just 2 inches) but other than that, it’s the same fan for a lower price.
- Remote control operation
- Comes in white or black
- Timer programmable for up to 8 hours
We tried this fan specifically because it was advertised as a good white noise fan. It’s pretty basic: 3 fan speeds, oscillation mode, tower design, remote control operation and a handle in the back so you can carry it from room to room. So how was it at producing white noise? The Lasko T42950 Wind Curve Tower Fan wouldn’t be on our list of the best tower fans for white noise if it didn’t help us sleep. On its medium setting, we were able to drown out much of the noise that usually wakes us in the night without being disturbed by the fan motor itself.
- Nice-looking wood grain face paneling
- Programmable up to 4 hours
Cools down rooms fast
What to Look for in a White Noise Tower Fan
Buying a fan primarily for white noise will require some discernment. Lots of people use fans to help them sleep but not everyone gets the features they need. Look out for:
- Variable fan speeds
- A “white noise” or sleep setting if possible
- One that can fit in your bedroom
Why use a Tower Fan for White Noise?
Tower fans typically have more modern features like white noise modes, sleep modes, and programmable timers. Those are important if you intend to use any kind of fan primarily to help you sleep. Even modern stand, floor and box fans usually don’t have those settings. Tower fans also tend to be cheaper than white noise machines.
