Best Low Wattage Space Heater Reviews

We weren’t expecting much when we came across this Amazon brand mini space heater. We thought the best low watt space heaters would come from the big brands like Lasko or Dyson. But we were very surprised with the effectiveness of the AmazonBasics Personal Mini Heater. First off, it operates at just 500 watts so it is very energy efficient. Still, keep in mind that this size space heater is suitable for very small spaces under 150 square feet or for personal use. We also recommend this space heater if you live in Canada during the winter.

But if you are looking for a space heater that you can take with you as you move around in your home, this is a great choice. It’s incredibly light and compact at just 6 inches tall, 5.8 inches wide and 3.2 inches thick. And it weighs only about a pound and a half. All you have to do is plug it in, flip the single power switch on the back and the ceramic coils start heating up instantly. Plus there is a fan to force the warm air in your direction.

  • Auto shutoff engages if the device gets tipped over
  • Comes in 4 colors
  • Runs quiet

If you are looking for a little more style and flare in a space heater than this Brightown device will be right up your alley. The thing that stood out the most to us at first about this personal space heater was the unique design. It sort of looks like a small, old-timey radio but its 400 watts of power mean serious warmth for rooms up to 100 square feet. The Brightown Mini Desk Heater is only 6 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 3 inches thick so it will fit pretty much anywhere you need it to.

It includes a fan so that the warm air is distributed more evenly in small rooms. And at 400 watts in its max setting, there is no risk of overloading the circuits in your home. The Brightown Mini Desk Heater also features a colorful orange faceplate which adds to its distinct character.

  • ETL certified appliance
  • Comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty
  • Great to use on your desk

Last on our list is a space heater for those of you who need just a little more power. The Andily Space Heater has three different settings: high heat operates at 1500 watts of power, low heat operates at 750 watts and there is also a fan only mode. So not only does this personal space heater work when you need a little extra warmth; you can keep it around in the summer for personal cooling too. It utilizes a ceramic heating element. We tested it in our guest bedroom which is about 250 square feet and it got the temperature up to 67 degrees in less than 5 minutes. This heater is also great for cold places like Canada.

And you don’t have to sacrifice convenience for the additional power. The Andily Space Heater bears the same dimensions as the AmazonBasics space heater we detailed earlier. There is also a thermostat setting that can help regulate the temperature of the room.

  • Features overheating and tip over protection functions
  • Weighs just over 2 pounds
  • Can be plugged into any normal 120 volt outlet

Frequently Asked Questions about Low Watt Heaters

How many watts does a space heater use on low?

That will depend on the capacity of the low setting. As a general rule of thumb though, if you have a space heater that is running at 1,500 watts, it is consuming 1.5 kilowatts of power. 1,000 watts is equal to 1 kilowatt so if you have a space heater running at 500 watts, it is using .5 kilowatts of power.

What is the cheapest way to heat a room?

Portable convection heaters like the ones on our list are very economical.

Can you run a space heater all night?

You should always opt for space heaters with auto-shutoff functions like the ones on our list but even then, it is considered an unsafe practice to run any space heater while you sleep or unattended.

Low watt space heaters are a great option for when you want to make your personal space more comfortable. They don’t draw a lot of energy and some of them can even double up as fans when the temperature rises. Just remember that heaters of this size and capacity aren’t meant to heat your whole house. But if you choose the right one like these best low watt space heaters for personal use, you won’t be disappointed.
